Aspera Software to Demonstrate Revolutionary High Speed File Transfer Technology at Government Video & Technology Expo (GVExpo) 2007

November 15, 2007; 10:50 AM

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aspera Inc., software developer of industry-leading, bulk data transport technology, today announced they will be exhibiting their fasp 2.0 high-speed file transfer products at GVExpo, the tenth annual gathering of the government-based media community. Aspera will demonstrate their core transport technology and product line which is the industry leading standard for high speed file transfer in digital media production, collaborative media management, and for enterprise-wide file sharing, including reliable delivery of files over difficult DOD tactical links.

The enormous data delivery challenges facing government and defense agencies necessitate new and better file transfer solutions, said Michelle Munson, Aspera President and Co-Founder. The quantity of data to be exchanged and variety of network conditions from high-speed global links, down to difficult low bandwidth DOD tactical links -- call for file transfer solutions that maximize bandwidth use and ensure reliable, fast, and predictable delivery over any type of network.

Fast, reliable and secure distribution of large files and large file sets over the public internet and classified government IP networks have become a critical requirement for federal and defense agencies. The limitations of conventional file transfer technologies have made it impractical to efficiently and predictably distribute large data over these networks, including in some cases, to war fighters over difficult DOD tactical links. Such links are characterized by high packet loss, high latency and periods of intermittent connectivity losses. Under these conditions, conventional protocols such as FTP and HTTP are slow, and use only a fraction of the available bandwidth. Large transfers may not even complete, potentially jeopardizing critical missions.

Asperas fasp 2.0 software transport platform is designed to address these limitations and provide bulk data transfers suitable for the most difficult network conditions. Asperas major customers in the defense and intelligence markets have tested Aspera fasp under extreme network delay and packet loss conditions of more than 30%, and have been impressed by the protocol efficiency, stability, and throughput.

Aspera fasp, broadly deployed in the media and entertainment industry, is now supporting the global digital workflows of multiple agencies in the federal sector. Several government customers, including defense and intelligence agencies, rely on Aspera for transmission of sensitive data, including video, imagery, and other large data sets. The US Army Intelligence and Security Command (INSCOM) uses Aspera software to distribute data over classified networks (SIPRNET and JWICS) to support war fighters deployed in Operation Endure Freedom (OEF) and Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). Aspera technology was selected as a result of industry surveys conducted by INSCOM and transitioned to the Distributed Common Ground System of the Army (PM DCGS-A) in Fort Monmouth, NJ.

Asperas fasp 2.0 platform provides maximum speed, complete security and breakthrough bandwidth control at global distances, including gigabit per second file transfer speeds over the WAN from point to point destinations over the network. The approach provides superior efficiency for transferring large single files, as well as large directories of files. The fasp 2.0 core is enhanced with a reliable stream API for transmission of continuous data streams over very difficult government networks, making it an ideal platform for government customers to build a variety of distributed data transfer applications.

Aspera deployment options include stand-alone applications or integration into customer-developed applications, supporting point-to-point, desktop client-server and web-based transfers. Several commercial digital asset management systems have also integrated Aspera technology, including North Plains, Artesia, VFinity, and GLOBALedit. Other deployment options include solutions offered by major partners such as Microsoft and Hewlett Packard that have integrated Aspera fasp as a superior transport technology to replace conventional protocols for bulk data transfer such as FTP, HTTP and Windows CIFS. Asperas open API offers flexible integration options, including support for web services, Java, .NET/C++, and JavaScript.
