Butler Group Names Nexaweb's Enterprise Web 2.0 Solution a Leading Rich Web Application Platform

New independent research report lists Nexaweb as one of two vendors on its “shortlist” for companies to consider when evaluating Rich Web Applications solutions

June 22, 2007; 12:30 AM

Burlington, MA, June 19, 2007, Nexaweb Technologies, Inc., provider of the leading standards-based platform for building and deploying Enterprise Web 2.0 (EW2.0) applications, today announced that a new, independent research report by the Butler Group calls out Nexaweb as a leading Rich Web Application (RWA) solutions provider.    Broad in scope and capabilities, the Nexaweb Enterprise Platform is described as providing powerful, enterprise-strength features and a strong architecture for early RWA adopters of today and mainstream adopters of tomorrow.

The report titled, “Rich Web Applications” (Butler Group – June 2007), explores the business benefits of Web-enabled application development, as well as addresses current topics including the role of Rich Internet Applications (RIAs) in a Service-Oriented Architecture.  As part of Butler Group’s rating methodology, the report examines historical, factual information surrounding market-segment development and maturity ¾ Butler Group refers to this as its Market Lifecycle Rating.  According to Butler Group, markets for information technologies generally develop in a predictable and cyclical manner through the following phases:

  • Early Adopter:  Here, new technologies, products, or solutions are developed to address specific business, market, or technical challenges. Organizations whose business requirements and corporate culture are well matched to the vendor offering will be amongst the first to adopt the solution in the hope that it will provide a competitive advantage or compelling business benefit.
  • Market Adoption:  This phase tends to start when proof-points are clear and unequivocal. During this phase, observant business and IT managers start to think about how a proven technology or solution can benefit their organization, and larger IT vendors will consider how best to enter the market. The Market Adoption phase is also the point at which market consolidation starts to take place, especially when those larger IT vendors decide to enter the market through an acquisition.
  • Market Maturity: This phase is often denoted by major consolidation within the market, and truly independent vendors become few and far between. Market Maturity is also the time when late adopters come to the market, as price levels will usually have fallen and, to a large extent, the technology has become commoditized.

“The Nexaweb Platform is strongly standards-based, with a user interface approach that minimizes programming and has the capability to reduce ownership costs,” said Alan Rodger, Research Analyst, Butler Group and co-author of the report. He continues, “It has the capability to deploy to both Ajax and Java client environments, and its Eclipse-based development environment provides facilities suitable for inexpert users, as well as programmers who need a more in-depth code view.  This architecture provides an ideal approach to the development of Rich Web Applications (RWA) and is the reason Nexaweb sits on the shortlist in each segment of the market lifecycle.”

In addition to presenting the market phases and their contribution to the overall lifecycle, Butler Group assesses each vendor in terms of their past and present performance and forecasts the future view of that vendor in the latter phases of the market.

The Market Lifecycle Rating lists vendors in three distinct bands:

  • Shortlist:  This category represents the leading solutions that we believe are worthy of a place on most technology selection shortlists. The vendor has established a commanding market position with a product that is widely accepted as best-of-breed.
  • Consider:  The vendors in this category have good market positioning and are selling and marketing the product well. The products offer competitive functionality and good price/performance, and should be considered as part of the technology selection process.
  • Explore:  Solutions in this category have less broad applicability, and may have limitations in terms of the product’s functionality, or the vendor’s execution capability. However, they will still be suitable to meet specific requirements, and may be worth exploring as part of the technology selection process.

“We see Nexaweb’s platform as a leading RWA product, securing its spot on the ‘shortlist,’” continued Rodger. “Enterprise-strength features and capabilities are incorporated throughout.  For example, all applications can be written to cater for on-line or off-line working, or a mixed state of connectivity, using mostly the same code. The product is also very strong architecturally – the delivery paradigm enforces strong separation of the User Interface (UI), and any aspect of Web architecture design, from the business logic.”

“As Butler Group’s assessment suggests, our customers are able to evolve their business and applications quickly and advance their competitive edge,” said Chris Heidelberger, CEO at Nexaweb.  “The ROI our customers, and other early adopters of Enterprise Web 2.0 technologies, have realized is no longer a secret.  To remain competitive, business across all industries must consider Enterprise Web 2.0 technologies as they plan the evolution of their IT infrastructures.”
