ObjectFX Releases SpatialFX 4.2 with AJAX Web Mapping Capability

May 18, 2007; 03:56 AM
ObjectFX® Corporation, a leader in delivering dynamic geospatial solutions, today announced availability of SpatialFX® 4.2, an upgrade to its flagship geospatial software platform. The release follows successful beta testing by customers and partners in defense, geospatial intelligence, transportation logistics and other industries.

With SpatialFX 4.2, ObjectFX delivers its new Web Mapping Tools component, an AJAX-based toolkit for building rich, highly interactive geospatial applications delivered through a Web browser. AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML) is one of the key components of the Web 2.0 technology stack. AJAX a is method for implementing Web-based applications that allows specific content on Web pages to update immediately when a user performs an action or when underlying data changes, rather than re-loading a whole new page. This allows for highly responsive and dynamic Web-based applications and simplified integration in service-oriented architectures.

New features available with SpatialFX 4.2 include:

  • Drag to pan map panning which allows users to drag the map image in any direction.
  • Ability to fuse large amounts of data and large numbers of dynamic objects into the map view while maintaining optimum performance in a Web environment.
  • Ability to display multiple map views simultaneously in a single HTML page. Map views can be connected, as with overview maps that track panning actions in a different map view, or disconnected, showing different geographic regions.
  • An open architecture that allows easy use of custom data access and rendering extensions, as well as custom mapping operations.

The new Web Mapping Tools capability is especially well-suited for browser-based applications that make use of large amounts of dynamic data. In fields such as national defense, government intelligence and transportation, applications often have to display large numbers of dynamic objects from a variety of different data sources, including feeds from the Global Positioning System (GPS), Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), sensor networks and other systems. This data can change rapidly and must be updated in near real time. Direct benefits of rich Internet mapping applications include: improved end user experience, increased productivity, easier integration with service oriented architectures and lower total cost of ownership.

SpatialFX 4.2 addresses the growing demand in the market for highly responsive Web-based applications, said ObjectFX president Nick Thomey. Combined with our SpatialRules product, we have the ability to address the full range of requirements for customers who need to manage dynamic spatial and temporal data on a full range of client platforms.

The new SpatialFX Web Mapping Tools capability allows developers to work with the full range of data sources and image formats supported by the SpatialFX platform, including an extensive list of 3rd party geospatial data management systems and raster and vector data formats.

SpatialFX 4.2 is available immediately. Contact ObjectFX for pricing and additional information.

About ObjectFX Corporation

ObjectFX Corporation provides products and solutions that enable organizations to leverage the full value of dynamic spatial and temporal data to gather intelligence, monitor and improve operations, and respond more quickly to changing conditions. SpatialFX is a Java-based platform for developing and deploying geospatial applications, including 2D and 3D map visualization, vehicle routing, address geocoding, custom symbology and other mission-critical capabilities on a full range of client and server systems. Our SpatialRules product is a spatiotemporal rule system that provides real time analysis of spatial and temporal data produced by location-tracking technologies such as the Global Positioning System (GPS), Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems, and sensor networks. ObjectFX software is deployed in a broad range of industries in which location and timing are critical, including transportation, supply chain management, field force management, homeland security, national defense and intelligence gathering.
