AmeriPath Selects Nexaweb's Enterprise Web 2.0 Platform for its Enterprise Laboratory Information System

March 26, 2007; 12:03 AM

AJAXWorld Conference & Expo – New York,  Nexaweb Technologies, Inc., provider of the leading standards-based platform for building and deploying Enterprise Web 2.0 applications, announced that AmeriPath, the leading national provider of physician-based anatomic pathology, dermatopathology and molecular diagnostic services, has successfully implemented the first release of its new Enterprise Laboratory Information system based on Nexaweb’s Enterprise Web 2.0 Platform.

The Nexaweb Enterprise Web 2.0 Platform will enable AmeriPath to provide its labs with the advantages of Web 2.0 technology through a unified platform that combines Rich Internet Applications (RIAs) with existing standards, tools and infrastructure. “Pathway,” AmeriPath’s new, browser-based Nexaweb EW2.0 application, significantly improves end user responsiveness and access to critical patient data. The new lab system has been rolled out to two of Ameripath’s largest laboratories.  The remaining 40+ labs will receive the new system in 2007.

“We needed a highly scalable composite Web application that complies with stringent HIPAA and SOX regulatory requirements,.” said Amy Wright, CIO of AmeriPath.  “With the Nexaweb Enterprise Web 2.0 Platform, we’ve not only been able to ensure more effective access to and interactivity with accurate patient data, we are also able to leverage our current IT investments, reduce costs and most importantly better serve our labs, and our referring physicians and their patients.”

“After evaluating various Web 2.0 development strategies including Ajax and JavaScript, we determined a Java-based framework was best suited to meet the requirements of AmeriPath’s feature-rich, business-critical application,” Shitlesh Patel, Ameripath’s Manager of Application Architecture.  “Nexaweb’s platform gives us the flexibility that our developers need to leverage reusable composite application components and bi-directional data sync with various backend servers.  This has significantly improved the development and deployment cycle, enabling us to respond quickly to the business’ requirements and shorten the time-to-market for customer applications.”

“Given the demands on enterprises to securely and successfully deploy business-critical Web 2.0 applications, IT organizations spend time every day working to enhance business agility and improve application performance while minimizing associated technology, development, deployment and management costs,” said David McFarlane, COO of Nexaweb. “We’re pleased that Nexaweb can help simplify this process for customers like AmeriPath that depend on rich, highly-interactive and secure Web applications being available to their distributed users.”
