March 14, 2007; 06:55 AM Release 2007/III of Archivista, the well-to-do embedded DMS solution of
the Zurich based software enterprise of the same name offers a
completely new WebClient.
Thanks to latest AJAX technology working with the WebClient is now as
comfortable as it used to be the case only with non web-based programs
(fat clients). The new WebClient is several times faster than the old
version. Responsibility for this leap is due to a completely rewritten
image library which was created in co-operation with exactcode.de.
All information (image data) is calculated afresh for the applicable
screen size and images are displayed in fractions of seconds. Black and
white images (Tiff files) are delivered as 2 bit greyscale images in
PNG format, the reason being that current browsers still do not
maximise quality of black and white images. What is more, JPG images
can be rotated and saved without any loss and again in fractions of
seconds.
Apart from an improved WebClient Archivista gained by more autonomous
deployment of the ArchivistaBox. Newly archived folders can be
automatically written to DVD/CDs. As long term archiving requires more
than one copy of archiving media, several DVD/CD writing devices can be
operated.
Another new feature of ArchivistaBox 2007/III is the signing of the
documents. All changes to the data are logged in revision proof manner.
This allows Feststellung, who when where and how had access to the
data. Together with the possibility to deploy ArchivistaBox redundantly
and autonomously, i.e.. independently of existing solutions
ArchivistaBox 2007/III is predestined for use in medical and
pharmacological environments.
With the exception of FineReader text recognition the entire product is
subject to the GPL and as such OpenSource. To avoid lästig compilation
of the sources, ArchivistaBox (incl sources) can be downloaded as ISO
file directly from archivista.ch or sourceforge.net. ArchivistaBox can
be used 'stand alone' on any computer (from 256MByte RAM) or in the
framework of a virtual box.
Archivista GmbH produces and sells DMS products since 1998. From the
year 2005 onward the development focus has lain with OpenSource
applications like ArchivistaBox. The managing director, Urs Pfister,
has been in charge of the company since 1998. It is 100% privately
owned.
