Appian to Present at Leading Standards Event on Using BPM to Help Secure Service-Oriented Architectures

BPM's Native Security Framework Will Be a First Line of Defense for Managing the Secure Orchestration of Web Services

October 10, 2006; 08:55 AM
Appian Corporation, the leading provider of Business Process Management suites (BPMS), announced Phil Larson, Director of Product Management, has been chosen to present at the Object Management Group’s (OMG) 2006 BPM/SOA workshop held in Burlingame, California from October 16-19, 2006. Mr. Larson will share strategies on how companies can use the native security framework of Business Process Management (BPM) systems to help secure web services orchestration and their Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) solutions as they conduct mission critical business processes.

As more organizations expose their business assets as reusable services through an SOA, the need for a smart and comprehensive security strategy is critical. Mr. Larson will discuss how BPM software naturally serves as the first line of defense for managing the secure orchestration of web services while still enabling companies to leverage other critical security technologies such as SSL, firewalls and WS-Security.

Session Title: "Using BPM to Help Secure Your SOA"
Date: October 18, 2006
Time: 9:00 - 9:45 A.M. PST
Location: Hyatt Regency San Francisco Airport Hotel

OMG is an international, not-for-profit computer industry consortium that sets standards across a wide range of technologies and vertical markets. Among its process-related standards, the most renowned is the Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN) standard, a specification providing organizations with a common graphical way to define and understand their internal and external business procedures. BPMN helps organizations communicate these procedures in a standard manner as they move from mere documentation to full-scale round-trip engineering and continuous process improvement. As an active member of the OMG community, Appian introduced the industry’s first BPMN-compliant, AJAX process modeling environment, fully supporting the industry’s “common language” for process design.
