Nexaweb's Enterprise Web 2.0 Platform Selected to Migrate Safewire's ARX Integrated, Multi-Channel Business Software System to the Web

August 7, 2006; 06:22 AM

Nexaweb Technologies, Inc., provider of the leading standards-based platform for building and deploying Enterprise Web 2.0 applications, announced that Safewire Ltd. has selected the Nexaweb Enterprise Web 2.0 Platform to deliver a new, Web-based version of its ARX integrated, multi-channel business operations solution.

Safewire's ARX is a traditional client/server application that relies on a character-based user interface to deliver customers operational modules for every aspect of their mail order business, from sales order entry to warehouse management to dynamic website generation, and enables them to analyze their key business drivers without having to worry about purchasing and integrating multiple systems. Using the jRex Conductor and Studio components of Nexaweb's Enterprise Web 2.0 platform, Safewire is building the next version of ARX as a visually compelling, browser-based application that delivers the richness and enterprise-qualities of client/server software.

"Today, an overwhelming number of customers want to utilize the Internet as their business application platform but are unwilling to sacrifice the scalability, security and performance they've become accustomed to with client/server solutions," said Peter Lowndes, president and CEO at Safewire Ltd. "Nexaweb's software is enabling us to leapfrog competitive web-based solutions and to deliver ARX as an enterprise-class, platform-independent rich internet application that will improve end-user satisfaction, increase productivity, and reduce ownership costs for our customers."

Development cost, skill re-use, and time-to-market were major considerations in Safewire's project planning and technology selection process. Nexaweb's jRex Conductor and Studio tools complement Safewire's XML engineering expertise and enable an integrated and streamlined UI design and code-generation process. This greatly reduces the need for new training and is allowing Safewire's product developers to rapidly develop and test new UI screens and application functionality. And, because Nexaweb integrates with Safewire's existing InterSystems' CACHE post relational database engine, there is no need to introduce additional servers to the application stack.

"Business agility was also an extremely important factor in our decision making process because we are determined to build the next version of ARX in a way that makes us a more flexible business," continued Lowndes. "Nexaweb's software not only gives us an incredible competitive advantage today, but offers us flexibility in the future including the opportunity to leverage our products to build open-source applications using Ajax or to pursue an ASP business model."

"Nexaweb has answered the unique application development challenges of independent software vendors for more than five years, and our current work with Safewire demonstrates our continued leadership in this market," said Chris Heidelberger, CEO at Nexaweb. "We're excited to be working with Safewire to build a market-leading, enterprise-quality, rich Internet application solution that promises to revolutionize the operational business systems marketplace."

Using Nexaweb Studio's visual design environment, Safewire is able to quickly design new, XML-based ARX user interface screens. When Safewire's development team has completed a new UI screen, they merge the XML source code into their existing InterSystems' CACHE database. The new XML code is used to create Safewire's CACHE Server Pages that are then rendered as customized, desktop-quality UI's by Nexaweb's jRex Conductor. Nexaweb's jRex Conductor is a declarative XML engine that enables application access, anytime, within any browser, without any software downloads or plug-ins.
