CollabNet, a leading provider of on-demand collaborative software development solutions, today unveiled openCollabNetTM, a new online community based on Web 2.0 principles and built around SubversionTM and CollabNet solutions. Developed as an extension to CollabNet’s products, the new site connects the 1.5 million users of CollabNet and Subversion, allowing them to share innovations and software development best practices whether they’re applied to open source projects or to tightly protected enterprise and government intellectual property.

openCollabNet provides worldwide development teams free access to community resources, product extensions, in-depth technical content, discussion forums, support and training. It acts as a hub for users to interact with each other and the ecosystem of partners that CollabNet has built around Subversion and CollabNet’s solutions for multi-site development.

Directly accessible from any instance of CollabNet® Enterprise Edition 4.5.1, openCollabNet is an innovative way for customers to interact with CollabNet, participate in the development of extensions to the CollabNet platform, try out new functionality, and discuss the future direction of CollabNet’s solutions. CollabNet’s users now have direct access to CollabNet’s worldwide development, support, services, and technical field teams in context of their own software development needs.

“In a world where cutting-edge companies drive success from leveraging global development talents, one-on-one communication isn’t sufficient anymore. CollabNet’s customers require online, fast, and open access to CollabNet’s products, services, and development teams as well as each other,” says Bill Portelli, President and CEO of CollabNet. “CollabNet’s expertise in collaborative software development and our innovative web based infrastructure enables us to connect our community of users in a way that no other traditional software vendor can. With openCollabNet, development organizations now have a quick and easy way to get started with CollabNet, get the most out of their investments and collaborate with us and the community of our users.”

As part of this initiative, CollabNet also makes available free versions of CollabNet Enterprise Edition and CollabNet Subversion. Both packages are available for download on openCollabNet:

-- The free download of CollabNet Enterprise Edition includes a license for up to 15 users and provides development teams with an easy way to sample collaborative development processes. The package is based on CollabNet Enterprise Edition 4.5.1, the latest release which brings breakthroughs to geographically distributed development teams and simplifies the deployment of an Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) approach across projects. A library of portable ALM templates that can be applied to any project managed in the CollabNet environment is directly accessible on openCollabNet.

-- CollabNet Subversion is Subversion compiled, tested and certified by CollabNet, the primary corporate sponsor of the open source Subversion project.

“The momentum for Subversion is increasing rapidly, and CollabNet is ideally positioned to drive broader enterprise adoption through its commercial grade training, support and consulting, and the community resources available on openCollabNet” says Mark Tolliver, President and CEO of Palamida. “Palamida has provided CollabNet with a full intellectual property audit report for Subversion, which provides customers one more level of assurance that CollabNet Subversion is ready for the enterprise. We were very pleased to work with CollabNet on this IP audit and applaud their forward-looking approach to IP transparency.”

CollabNet Subversion, the free download of CollabNet Enterprise Edition and the library of ALM templates are examples of many of the packages and product extensions that development teams can get for free on openCollabNet to extend their collaboration capabilities.

CollabNet is the most widely used on-demand collaborative development environment with more than 900,000 developers and IT projects managers collaborating on-line through CollabNet. The company is transforming the way software is being developed by enabling organizations to leverage global development talents to deliver better products and innovate faster.

Using CollabNet Enterprise Edition, project members can work as one team throughout the lifecycle of a project, regardless of their location. Unlike traditional software development tools, CollabNet supports globally distributed teams in a cost-effective way, yielding unprecedented annual savings through reduced development infrastructure costs, increased productivity, improved project visibility and shared access to software assets. Founded upon open source principles, CollabNet is also the primary sponsor of the SubversionTM open source project, the next-generation version control system.

Over 100 global companies have chosen CollabNet as the foundation for their collaborative development, off-shoring, open source, and partner co-development efforts. CollabNet has been recognized for its leadership with 10 major industry awards in 2006 including the Red Herring and Always On TOP 100 Awards, and the SIIA Codie Award.
