The WikiMatrix website celebrates its one-year existence November 24. The portal created by the German company CosmoCode allows comfortable comparison of more than 70 Wiki products and grew to be an important resource for choosing a Wiki software today.

Inspired by the success of Wikipedia, more and more Wikis are set up for internal and external enterprise communications and are revolutionizing companies knowledge management. The choice for the right software to create a Wiki depends on many factors and the huge amount of available products complicates the decision even more.

The WikiMatrix portal, which is operated by the German company CosmoCode, helps with choosing the right application. It allows you to compare multiple products based on their features. It displays the more than 100 cataloged aspects in comfortable side-by-side tables. The comparison matrix can be adapted to the user's needs anytime by adding or removing products or hiding unwanted features.

Both developers and experts as well as users and newcomers are united at the WikiMatrix portal.

Newcomers are guided by the "Choice Wizard" which helps to narrow the wide choice of Wiki engines down to the ones matching their needs. It does so by asking a handful of questions and presenting a list of matching products. Help and support in choosing a Wiki can be found in the available discussion boards. A new search interface was just added on schedule with the one year birthday of the platform. It enables searches for Wikis with specific features and provides an JavaScript interface to interactively create custom search queries.

Wiki developers do not only maintain the data of their own Wiki product at WikiMatrix but also talk to other developers in the forums or exchange news and advancements in Wiki technology. WikiMatrix is also an important tool for researchers. It's markup comparison features helped with the creation of the CREOLE markup standard, for example.

The newly provided REST-API might prove valuable for developers and researchers, too. It makes accessing the data stored at WikiMatrix possible from within other applications. This could be used to gain new insights on Wiki-Technologies.
