TIBCO to Open Source AJAX Rich Internet Application Toolkit

TIBCO Software Inc. unveiled TIBCO General Interface version 3.2, beta edition. TIBCO General Interface, which was rated as the best AJAX Rich Internet Application (RIA) toolkit by IDG's Infoworld this year, will provide developers with an open source licensing option and newly added functionality including support for Firefox 1.5. By offering an open source license developers will be able to freely use and extend TIBCO General Interface to more easily combine and leverage the powerful capabilities of a service- oriented architecture (SOA) with Rich Internet Applications (RIA) technology.

"What PowerBuilder did to accelerate the use of relational data base systems in the 1980's, TIBCO aims to do for SOA, through General Interface and its SOA products," said Kevin Hakman, director, product marketing, TIBCO General Interface. "Offering TIBCO General Interface under an open source license broadens the availability of our proven enterprise-class AJAX RIA libraries and visual tools to an even larger group of developers and organizations," added Hakman.

TIBCO General Interface version 3.2, beta edition will provide developers with more than 100 ready-made components and easy-to-use visual layout, data management and communication tools, making it one of the most comprehensive and mature AJAX offerings on the market today. In addition, added support for Firefox 1.5 will expand the reach of applications developed with TIBCO General Interface to meet the growing demand for Firefox among developers and for use on business desktops.

With the release of TIBCO General Interface 3.2, beta edition, TIBCO adds another offering to the company's suite of products and services for building and maintaining SOAs. TIBCO said it continues to refine and share its leading vision with the industry by way of the company's involvement with standards bodies, such as the OpenAjaxAlliance.

TIBCO General Interface version 3.2 is available to the public now as a beta download. TIBCO will provide two licensing options: a free open source BSD license and the TIBCO enterprise license, which includes support, warranty and indemnity. Source code for TIBCO General Interface version 3.2 will be available after the completion of the beta cycle. TIBCO General Interface is available for download at www.tibco.com/mk/gi .
