Crescendo Networks, Provider of application Front End (AFE) products, announced that it is working with leading application vendors to optimize and accelerate Web 2.0 and Rich Internet Applications (RIAs.) By consolidating and offloading server-intensive features such as TCP acceleration, SSL acceleration, compression and load balancing, Crescendo's Maestro AFE relieves the potential traffic burdens that RIAs can impose on existing data center application and server resources. As a result of Maestro's capabilities, companies implementing new application technology can do so without negatively impacting the quality of end user experiences.

Rich Internet Applications are taking the web in exciting new directions. Popular web services like Google Maps, Google Mail and Yahoo Flickr have brought RIAs to the forefront of web technology. RIAs do, however, present an entirely new approach to web design - and are both 'richer' and more responsive than traditional web applications. They also take some of the application logic from the server and bring it to the client browser, creating a richer user experience through interfaces that resemble desktop applications.

"Although RIAs offer enhanced usability and interface dynamics, the impact of them on the underlying network must be addressed," stated Hooman Beheshti, Vice President of Products for Crescendo Networks, Inc. "More demanding 'traffic profiles,' more HTTP transactions, more TCP connections and higher bandwidth requirements all contribute to increased network traffic which places more demands on data center and server resources," continued Beheshti. "Crescendo's powerful Maestro hardware platform makes it an optimal choice for accelerating and optimizing RIAs - and its ability to handle large amounts of traffic and high transaction rates offers significant benefits to developers of RIAs," Beheshti continued.

Backbase is a leading provider of AJAX-based RIA software and solutions for customers ranging from Ferrari and Bank of America to Heineken and ING. Developers using Backbase AJAX software are creating rich applications that better meet the demands of today's Internet users. "Rich, interactive, data-driven applications represent the direction for web development," stated Jep Castelein, Marketing Manager of Backbase. "As a result, it is important and timely that companies like Crescendo deliver acceleration solutions that address the demands that RIAs can place on the network. Products like Crescendo's Maestro AFE will help meet the needs of this revolutionary technology," he observed.

Crescendo's Maestro Platform provides acceleration, optimization, and delivery for all web-enabled applications. The hardware-enabled platform provides multi-gigabit application acceleration by offloading servers from process-intensive tasks and optimizing the delivery of the application to its users. Maestro accelerates applications at multi-gigabit speeds, addressing the pain-points associated with web application delivery, while also optimizing the actual delivery of the application content. The result is better and faster application delivery and more satisfied and productive users.
