SlickEdit Inc., provider of advanced code editors, announced improved support for scripting and dynamic languages in the 11.0.1 release of the company's flagship product SlickEdit. SlickEdit has enhanced support for Python and Ruby and added ActionScript 2.0 to the list of over 40 languages supported.

SlickEdit has long supported Python, a dynamic object-oriented programming language that can be used for many kinds of software development. SlickEdit v11.0.1 continues to improve support for the Python language by offering enhanced Context Tagging, Auto-Completion, Syntax Indenting, and code navigation.

Ruby is an object-oriented programming language combining elements of Perl, Smalltalk, and Scheme. Ruby also shares some features with Python, Lisp, Dylan and CLU. Support for Ruby was added to SlickEdit's v11 release.

SlickEdit has also added new support for ActionScript 2.0. ActionScript is an ECMAScript-based programming language used for controlling Macromedia Flash movies and applications. ActionScript has grown rapidly in popularity among game developers. JavaScript is based on the same ECMAScript syntax as ActionScript, allowing fluency in one to translate easily to the other.

"Many projects are seeing improved productivity by using scripting and dynamic languages like Ruby and Python," said Scott Westfall, Director of Software Development. "SlickEdit's advanced editing functionality and time saving features will make developers even more productive."

SlickEdit pricing starts at $284 for new licenses and $139 for upgrades. Other products available from SlickEdit are the SlickEdit Plug-in for Eclipse and SlickEdit Tools for Microsoft Visual Studio 2005. For more information about SlickEdit and free trial downloads, visit www.slickedit.com.
