Mediasurface, an AIM-listed content management provider, today announced the release of version 5.4 of its software product, Morello.

Morello v5.4 uses advanced AJAX (asynchronous JavaScript and XML) technology to further enhance the usability and accessibility of the Morello Web Client application, the browser-based version of its flagship Smart Client solution.

One of Morello's strong points is simplicity.

Lawrence Flynn, Mediasurface’s CEO said of the new release:

“Version 5.4 means that our Web Client is now ‘par excellence’ in its field. Virtually identical to the Smart Client application, it sets a new standard in Content Management via a web browser. We continue to innovate and provide true user benefits with our products and this is just another example of that ethos.”

Key additions to the Morello Web Client are:
- Drag and Drop functionality
- Content Tracking Capability
- Taxonomy browser
- Right Click in-context menus
- Enhanced accessibility features

Version 5.4 incorporates one of the most requested functions in browser-based content management software – the ability to drag and drop items within the application in exactly the same way as the Smart Client. This will revolutionise the way web client users work with the content of a website, as they will no longer need to go through several web forms or other lengthy procedures – users can simply drag any item from one location to another, rearranging content or even entire sections in a website.

The Web Client application now allows the user to use the traditional “right click” mouse function, providing in-context support at every stage – a true innovation in web-based content management software. By providing users with yet another “familiar” function, the Web Client will help further increase user adoption and loyalty to this already inherently usable content management system.

Content Tracking facilities have also been added to the Web Client, enabling users to identify where content is being used on other sections of the site, or even on other sites altogether. This means that content managers can now analyse the impact of changing such items, before they are propagated through to all the pages where they are used.

The Web Client now offers the same powerful taxonomy browser as the Smart Client. By providing the ability to structure and classify content according to a industry specific taxonomy (for example, the IPSV within the public sector), every single content author in an organisation can ensure their content is tagged and classified in the most appropriate way. Authors can now easily identify the right keywords and phrases for their content, enriching search results to provide a much more accurate result.

As well as all the specific additions, a number of general enhancements have been added to the Web Client to make it work in a much more similar way to the Smart Client. Additions such as a Style Picker and HTML Parser will improve general accessibility and usability, and mean that users will see immediate improvements in ease of use and accessibility using the Web Client.
