The Ajax Directory Manager was initially developed for design company Duarte Design.  In the process of work programmer Chris Iufer decided to name the project Relay and release the code to the public as open source.

Relay is intended as a better way to manage site files for blogs or personal homepages, and to transfer files between web-based designers and their clients.  Once installed, the Ajax-powered file manager provides easy and intuitive file management via an internet connection.  Functionalities include sliding menus and live previewing of images and PDF files.

In the words of the author: "Are you fed up with that lame old directory manager your hosting company provided you with for you website or blog? If you are already familiar with windows or mac file browsers, why should you have to change the way you work for the web? Try Relay for a change."

Relay code can be downloaded at http://ecosmear.com/relay/.  Live demo and community wiki are also available online.
