Web 2.0 Community Ning.com Adds New JavaScript App

Online community Ning.com made an overhaul to their application interface, replacing the mandatory sidebar on applications with a customizable javascript bar at the top of the page.

Ning provides its users with the ability to create online applications like blogs and bookmark-sharing sites in true Web 2.0 style.  The new top bar offers a way to quickly access Ning functionalities and personal contacts.

As described in the Ning blog: "[The top bar] starts out closed giving your app full visual control of the page. But when you click on any of the buttons in the Ningbar, they dynamically open to a panel in the page where users of an app can take advantage of app-level search, messaging, address book importing, ability to add friends, and a quick view into what’s popular. You can also quickly see other people enjoying it and, hey, make them friends too."
