Visible Measures to Deliver Application Usage Analytics; New Product Release Targets Ajax-enabled Rich Internet Applications

Visible Measures released Visible Measures 2.0 with full support for Ajax application usage analytics. The company also named MIT Professor Edward B. Roberts, chair of the MIT Entrepreneurship Center to its Board of Directors, and announced new funding from leading angel investors. Visible Measures was co-founded in 2004 by software entrepreneur Brian Shin, formerly of Allaire Corp. and co-founder of Creative Aspects and The Cambridge Intelligence Agency, and veteran software architect Andrew Wilson, formerly of NuMega Technologies / CompuWare. Its products provide solutions that capture and manage detailed application feature usage and associated error information for traditional, Web, and Rich Internet Applications (RIA).

With research showing that over 20% of application development spending may be wasted when applications are misaligned with user requirements, product teams seek ways to optimize how they plan, design, build, test, and market software. But detailed information that accurately reflects users' real needs is difficult and expensive to track, especially for the newest Ajax/RIA applications that split application execution among browser and server components. Nevertheless, given the enormous opportunities presented by these applications, those barriers must be overcome. "With the advent of Web 2.0 it will be important to provide customers with the ability to monitor and manage application usage, particularly as it applies to areas like self-service applications," said Judith Hurwitz, President of Hurwitz and Associates.

Visible Measures solves the problem with automated solutions built on a light-weight, distributed, and highly scalable architecture that can capture and aggregate dynamic application usage information across many users, platforms, and environments. "With this release we're uniquely positioned to take advantage of the tremendous growth in Web application redevelopment and redesign occurring in organizations, especially around new Web 2.0 technologies like Ajax," said Brian Shin, CEO of Visible Measures. "Visible Measures gives companies insights about their users which can enable them to dramatically improve customer satisfaction and the profitability of software investments. Our goal is to arm application product teams with the information they need in order to know where to focus their time and budgets, based on actual customer usage data."

Visible Measures, which was a semi-finalist in the 2005 MIT $50K Entrepreneurship Competition and selected to present at the MIT Deshpande Center IdeaStream Symposium 2005, lists Macromedia (now Adobe) and Iron Mountain Digital as major customers, and currently has a signed agreement with Dynatech International. Its new round of seed financing will be used to build out the engineering team and expand business development activities as the company prepares to roll out significant new capabilities, including a hosted Web service offering.
