Altova® (www.altova.com), creator of XMLSpy® and other leading XML, data management, UML, and Web services tools, today announced the latest version of its Unified Modeling Language™ (UML®) development tool, Altova UModel® 2006. A straightforward and affordable approach to software modeling, UModel 2006 presents a rich visual interface and trouble-free, advanced capabilities that help level the UML learning curve and enhance developer productivity by making software modeling easy and fun. In addition to its previous roster of UML diagram types and Java code support, UModel 2006 now provides support for the latest UML 2.1 and XMI 2.1 specifications, Sequence diagrams, and C# code generation, reverse engineering, and round-trip engineering.

“UModel's strength comes from its simplicity and cost effectiveness, and developers have responded very positively to its extraordinary approach,” said Tim Hale, Director of Marketing for Altova. “By continuing to add diagram types and expand UModel's programming language support, we are delivering advanced features found in much more expensive UML tools at a fraction of their cost. What's more, with its new support for XMI, customers of burdensome and high priced tools can supplement their implementations by adding economical UModel licenses and sharing models back and forth between platforms.”

New in Altova UModel 2006

  • C# Code Generation – Provides code generation, reverse engineering, and round-trip engineering capabilities for the C# programming language. Reverse engineering includes specialized support for Microsoft Visual Studio .NET and Borland C# Builder projects.
  • Sequence Diagram Support – Adds these important behavior diagrams to the UModel diagram library to help define the interactions between objects in an application and to specify the messages sent and received.
  • XMI 2.1 Interoperability – Imports and exports UML models according to the Object Management Group™ (OMG™) XML Metadata Interchange (XMI®) 2.1 specification to ensure interoperability with other standards conformant UML tools.
  • UML 2.1 Compliance – Updates standards support in compliance with the OMG's emerging UML 2.1 specification that enhances and refines the UML standard. UModel 2006 is one of the first UML tools to support this important specification, demonstrating Altova's rapid response and commitment to industry standards.
  • Advanced Messaging – Offers search, filter, copy-to-clipboard, and intelligent hyperlinking operations within the message window.
