A new version of the PHP gallery script Pyxy has been released.  The new version includes some restructured code and adds minor new features.  Downloads and documention are availble at http://fennecfoxen.org/pyxy/gallery ; live demo is at http://fennecfoxen.org/misc/photo/reynolda/ .  The script was written by 21 year old Thomas Whaples and released under the GPL license.

Pyxy uses Ajax to allow picture browsing without leaving the page, and applies Pyxy  fragment identifiers to let users bookmark and link to individual pages within the gallery.  It uses the HTTP headers that browsers send to determine whether or not to re-send image thumbnails. It supports keep-alive connections to reduce loading time latency and to save bandwidth.

As of May 10th (v.1.10) Pyxy is compatible with Lightbox.js, thus allowing for even more eye-candy.

From the installation notes: "To install pyxy-gallery, simply unzip the .php file and move it into a directory on your web server with lots of images in it. Pyxy-gallery will automatically download the file prototype.js and place it in the directory where you installed pyxy. If you do not want this to happen, set $pref['autoinstall'] = 0;, as described below. If the automatic installation fails, you will need to download this file yourself and install it as prototype.js.
