BrowserMedia Launches APTA and FTA Emergency Response Preparedness Program

November 21, 2007; 09:54 AM

BETHESDA, Md.--BrowserMedia is pleased to announce the launch of the Emergency Response Preparedness Program (ERPP) website, viewable at http://www.aptaerpp.com. ERPP is a program sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) in partnership with the Federal Transit Administration (FTA).

As a result of 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina, transit systems, their suppliers, and other entities have come to understand the urgency of preparedness in the advent of a catastrophic event. APTA's Emergency Response and Preparedness Program (ERPP) is an online "mutual aid" tool designed to assist in times of these unfortunate disasters and other situations. The site provides a venue by which fellow transit systems and industry entities can volunteer and /or access resources in order to prepare for an expected event or in the wake of an unforeseen situation. Additionally, the information gathered on the ERPP site can enhance an organization's existing emergency plans by adding other resources if needed.

BrowserMedia worked closely with APTA staff to develop the online presence and custom back-end functionality. Using Ruby on Rails (RoR) and AJAX technologies, BrowserMedia created a highly-interactive, searchable database that streamlines the process of matching volunteers with those in need of resources.

Rachelle Jezbera of APTA, said, The American Public Transportation Association (APTA) recently utilized the services of BrowserMedia to develop and launch the Emergency Response and Preparedness Program website (www.aptaerpp.com). This "mutual aid" program was developed in response to the catastrophic events witnessed by the transit industry over the last two years. The association believes this program and database will be a powerful tool for public transit and their suppliers in terms of useful information and available resources volunteered for emergency situations.
