Hakano Changes Name to Appcelerator; Launches Open Source Rich Internet Application (RIA) Development Platform Company

October 30, 2007; 10:42 AM

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) October 30, 2007 -- Hakano, Inc., an Atlanta-based Web 2.0 and rich Internet application (RIA) development company, today announced it has re-named the company Appcelerator, Inc. Under the new name, Appcelerator will focus on providing open source products and solutions to help enterprises develop, integrate and manage RIAs and SOA-based services.

Hakano was originally founded in 2006 by Atlanta software developers and entrepreneurs, Jeff Haynie and Nolan Wright. The two were frustrated by how cumbersome and time-intensive it was to create Web 2.0 applications (Web-based applications with dynamic user interfaces) using existing technologies and platforms. As a result, they developed a next generation Web platform that enabled them to build RIAs better, faster and more cost-effectively.

"We were looking for a better and faster way to build Web 2.0 apps for our clients," says Jeff Haynie, CEO of Appcelerator. "We ended up developing a new approach to building Web-based applications - enabling us to create fully-functional RIAs in less than one-third of the time it would normally take. At the same time, we could seamlessly integrate those apps with any SOA-based services and mainstream Web browsers without additional code."

Appcelerator's Web platform is based on open standards and a development philosophy that challenges traditional application development models. Appcelerator's platform is based on a message oriented architecture, where clients and services can be developed and executed independently from one another, while being linked by lightweight messages. Developers create services in any language - and integrate RIAs and services without changing a single line of code.

"The Appcelerator Platform offers several powerful and unique value propositions," said Nolan Wright, VP of Product Strategy for Appcelerator. "You get Ajax and DHTML without having to write Javascript, you can write services in any programming language, rapidly prototype RIAs with no throwaway code, and leverage full platform extensibility to do whatever you want. I believe the combination of all of these capabilities in one solution is a game-changer and truly makes Appcelerator a next generation Web platform.

The Appcelerator Platform SDK is currently available for public download at http://www.appcelerator.org. Application developers can begin building RIAs and SOA-based services quickly, utilizing pre-built developer widgets for the most common application components. Developers will find that the Appcelerator Platform requires far less code than Javascript, enabling them to add expressions to standard HTML to create applications with Ajax and DHTML. Once client applications are created, they can be integrated with any services, including Java, PHP, Ruby or .NET - and run in any modern Web browser.
