WeCanLiveGreen.com Launches as Internet’s First Green Products and Services Directory

August 13, 2007; 02:15 AM
WeCanLiveGreen.com, the Internets first green products and services directory, launches today. The website, aimed at connecting consumers to the ever-growing green product and services industry, empowers consumers to efficiently and effectively educate themselves on green issues. In addition, consumers are connected to green products and services on a nationwide level both through We Can Live Greens online directory and We Can Live Greens region-specific directory.

The site will offer:

  • Products and Services Directory Online and region-specific directories direct consumers to green products and services ranging from apparel, bath and beauty, energy conservation, gardening, home improvement, school supplies, transportation and much more.
  • Green Living 101 An informational tutorial that educates consumers on a variety of issues relating to going green and sustainable living.
  • Expert and Celebrity Forums Consumers gain firsthand access to experts in the field and their knowledge on specific topics. Celebrities also sound out on various aspects of the movement to go green.
  • Public Forums Forum members have the opportunity to share information, tips and insight on a variety of issues.
  • 365 Day Pledge to Go Green Consumers can access a downloadable document that takes them through a step-by-step daily guide to going green.
  • Interactive Components for All Ages Consumers of all ages have the opportunity to contribute to the website through art contests, forums and documentary contests.

Our goal was simple. We wanted consumers to have a place to go where they could find great, environmentally-friendly products and services easily and we wanted them to be able to find reliable information on a variety of topics, said Jennifer Noonan, president and founder of We Can Live Green.

The website was developed in collaboration with up2speed computer solutions, llc, a technology services company based in Denver, Colorado. up2speed built the site on their proprietary template engine allowing for search-engine friendly URLs to be used for an infinite number of pages, and scalability in dynamic listings. The website was developed using best practices for search engine optimization and accessibility, including static URLs, text-based rather than image-based navigation, and usable layout for screen-readers or non-CSS browsers.

The management backend leverages AJAX & other Web 2.0 innovations to provide a dynamic and user-friendly experience. This allows the management interface to feel more like a local application, rather than having the delays and page-loads commonly associated with a web application.

Our relationship with We Can Live Green was invaluable during each phase of development as we collaborated to create a web based application that has allowed We Can Live Green to bring their vision to reality, said Joshua Ross, Principal at up2speed computer solutions.
