Movidis Releases Linux Applications for the Revolution x16 Servers Delivering Up To 98% Energy Savings

LinuxWorld San Francisco 2007 -- Movidis, Inc. today announced the availability of several software packages for the company’s Revolution x16 Servers. The Revolution x16 delivers market-leading performance, security and power-efficiency with an architecture that supports both high performance networked storage and secure Web servers. With the new Linux applications, the x16 can perform the most critical web server functions, while consuming up to 98% less energy. The new software packages can be quickly deployed on the Revolution and include a full LAMP suite, a Java Virtual Machine (JVM), lighttpd, Apache SSL, and a browser-based user interface for managing the server and all of the applications.

The new software releases are:

• A full LAMP suite – the combination of Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP/Perl/Python.
• A Java Virtual Machine (JVM) – The JAM JVM lets Web servers run applications written in Java – a common language for many of today’s interactive Web sites.
• lighttpd – lighttpd is being used by many Web sites for serving up static Web pages, as it is much faster and requires less memory than Apache for this application. Movidis has optimized lighttpd to run even faster on the Revolution – as much as 15 times faster than an equivalently priced multi-core x86 server running Apache.
• Apache SSL – The Revolution x16 is the only Web server that performs encryption in hardware without an accelerator card.
• Webmin – a browser-based user interface (UI) for managing the server and all of the applications from the network.

The new software packages are available now, and ship for free with the Revolution x16. Revolution x16 Servers are available in 1U or 2U rack mount enclosures, with up to twelve SATA or SAS drives, for a maximum capacity of 12 Terabytes in a single 2U RAID system.
