Expert Group Announces Initiation of Public Review for the Content Repository Standard Led by Day Software

July 20, 2007; 04:42 AM
Day Software (SWX: DAYN) (OTCQX: DYIHY), a leading provider of global content management and content infrastructure software, today announced that it has submitted version 2.0 of the Content Repository for Java Technology API, JSR 283, to the Java Community Process (JCP). An update to the groundbreaking JSR 170 standard, JSR 283 enables large enterprises to easily manage their digital content on a global scale.

We started a true paradigm shift in the content industry when we introduced JSR 170, the first global standard for content repositories, said David Nuescheler, CTO of Day Software and specification lead for JSRs 170 and 283. With JSR 283, we have added several substantial enhancements that will make it even easier for companies to simplify their repository architecture, increase efficiency and reduce cost. JSR 283 adheres to the same general goal of JSR 170 - to produce a content repository API that provides an implementation-independent way to access content bi-directionally on a granular level.

Extensions to JSR 170 (JCR version 1.0) for version 2.0 include greater access control management, workspace and node-type management, as well as retention aspects of content or cross-repository aspects. The latest version provides improved interoperability within the content repository through the addition of new standardized node types, such as meta information and internationalization.

With this submission, Day has again taken an industry-leadership role in developing a standard that will enable the entire industry to grow and mature. Expert Group members include: Apache Software Foundation, BEA Systems, EMC/Documentum, IBM, Interwoven, JBoss, Opentext, Oracle, SAS Institute, and Vignette.
