iStockphoto Adds Enhanced Search Capabilities, New Video Formats and Six Additional Languages

June 14, 2007; 07:03 AM
iStockphoto®, the world’s busiest image and video market, today announced a significant site update, adding more sellable video formats to the product mix, and increasing the reach and usability of the website. iStock has implemented some exciting new search capabilities, and the ability to download videos in .wmv and .mp4 formats. As part of its international expansion efforts, the company has added localized sites in Japanese, Portuguese, Brazilian Portuguese, Italian, Polish and Russian, making it the only microstock site fully searchable in 12 languages and viewable in 10.

“Our community continues to grow at a remarkable pace – our challenge is to stay on top of what clients from all over the world need,” said Bruce Livingstone, CEO of iStockphoto. “On the video side, we are finding more customers want a simple way to drop video clips into their PowerPoint presentations – these additional formats will help the collection meet their evolving needs.”

Here is a breakdown of changes now available at www.iStockphoto.com:

Search Functionality

--  New Streamlined Search:

--  All of iStock's advanced search functions are now integrated
into a single AJAX search bar, allowing specific and accurate
searches for different file types, sizes, and prices. Users
can now find photos, illustrations, and videos of a certain
size and price, all with fewer clicks and page loads.

--  Tracking Popular and Emerging Trends:

The iStock community thrives on creative competition, and with these
new site enhancements, both contributors and clients have more ways to
track the site's internal marketplace trends. Now members can:

--  Check highest-rated files within any date range, across
        different file types.

--  See the most-downloaded files for a specific period of time.

--  Track contributors that are on the rise.

--  See the top-rated design submissions from the iStock
community, as well as the best entries in the Steel Cage
        competition.

Video Formats

The stock video industry is estimated to be a $282 million market this year. iStock has found that its affordable price structure attracts new customers who would not have previously purchased video. They don't always have video manipulation software and simply want to buy a clip and pop it into a presentation. With this in mind, iStock has expanded its video format offerings to include .wmv and .mp4 formats for easy inclusion in any type of project.

Language Expansion

iStockphoto is the only microstock agency to offer searches in 12 languages. Parent company Getty Images’ controlled vocabulary allows customers to perform keyword searches in any of 12 native languages. Contributors are also able to keyword an image in their native tongues and rest assured it will be accurately tagged into the other 11 languages. With today’s update, iStockphoto is now localized in the following additional 6 languages:

--  Japanese

--  Portuguese

--  Brazilian Portuguese

--  Italian

--  Polish

--  Russian
