WorkLight™, an Enterprise 2.0 company,
today announced the general availability of version 1.1 of its flagship
WorkLight product. WorkLight is a server-based product that extends the
reach of enterprise applications to allow non-technical staff and
customers to access the application data they need to do their jobs.
WorkLight makes application data accessible via consumer-oriented
services and tools like RSS, personalized home pages, widgets and
gadgets, social bookmarking and others.
WorkLight version 1.1 introduces the following key functionalities:
-
Support for Consumer-Oriented Personalized Homepages: For the
first time ever, information workers can securely access personalized
data from enterprise applications in the same consumer-oriented
homepage they use to read blogs or follow news. Information such as
sales leads, unpaid invoices or open support calls can be seamlessly
delivered to personal pages through these services, while adhering to
the strictest corporate security policies. WorkLight currently
supports the following personalized homepages: iGoogle, Windows Live
and Netvibes.
-
Support for Desktop Gadget Frameworks: WorkLight now supports
desktop gadget frameworks, such as Windows Vista Sidebar Gadgets and
Yahoo! Widgets. As such, enterprise employees can now access corporate
data using their favorite widget tools, without having to adopt
additional widget frameworks. This fosters the adoption of Web 2.0
access to corporate data, making employees more productive and
organizations more successful. For the first time ever, non-technical
personnel can easily build mini-applications using templates and
wizard tools. WorkLight hides the underlying complexity of data
access, while ensuring that existing security policies are maintained.
-
Permalinks: Using its unique patent-pending technology,
WorkLight now makes it possible to "permalink" enterprise application
records. In essence, WorkLight assigns permanent links (URLs) to
enterprise data items. Using these links, employees can now
collaborate securely with colleagues by sharing application data just
like they do with their favorite news stories. For example, an
accounts receivable clerk could share unpaid invoices with the
appropriate salespeople to make sure that invoices get paid on time.
Employees save huge amounts of time and commit fewer errors because
information they need to share with peers is now at their fingertips.
Information is delivered only to authorized users of the native
application and is subject to the organization’s
access control policies, so data integrity and confidentiality are
assured.
-
Support for JSON: WorkLight now supports JSON, an open Web data
interchange format for JavaScript applications (widgets, gadgets, and
dynamic HTML pages). Support for JSON enables corporate non-technical
employees to analyze enterprise data retrieved by WorkLight. This
provides an unprecedented level of secure data access to the business
people who run companies.
"With the advent of WorkLight version 1.1, enterprise workers can now
securely access application data using a wide variety of consumer
services they are familiar with at home,” said
Shahar Kaminitz, CEO and founder of WorkLight. “The
ease of use by which employees can now securely get the data they need
to do their jobs, delivers enormous productivity gains to organizations.
WorkLight customers are poised to gain a significant competitive
advantage as they roll out this new release."
Now available, WorkLight version 1.1 is licensed to enterprises by
yearly subscription. Pricing starts at $10 per user per month. Volume
discounts are available.
