New Web Application Security Technology Helps Canadian Companies Combat Security Breaches

February 22, 2007; 06:02 AM
Toronto-based Informatica Security, a reseller of S.P.I. Dynamics Inc.’s leading Web application security solutions, has announced the availability of SPI Dynamics’ WebInspect™ 7.0 WebInspect is the industry leading web application security assessment product built for the complex technologies of the new web that helps companies to combat the latest threats to confidential information and customer data records.

The release by US-based web application security leader SPI Dynamics comes at a time when Canadian consumers are openly concerned about the privacy and security of their personal and financial information. Recent breaches in the retail and banking sectors have reportedly exposed thousands of Canadians to identify theft breaches and credit card fraud.

Informatica president Claudiu Popa believes that Canadian companies have a lot to gain from adopting adequate application security practices: “Canadian information privacy and security law can only offer very limited protection for consumers. To adequately protect customer information, Canadian companies need to show a commitment to better, more secure practices. This is the type of solution that will make a difference by detecting and helping to prevent breaches before they occur.”

SPI Dynamics’ WebInspect 7 delivers faster scanning capabilities, broader assessment coverage, and the industry’s most accurate results. WebInspect 7 is powered by the new SPI Dynamics’ “Phoenix” architecture (http://www.spidynamics.com/news/pr/pr12907a.html) that uniquely addresses the requirements associated with complex Web 2.0 technologies such as AJAX, SOAP, SOA and Flash. Traditional application scanners fail to discover security vulnerabilities exposed by use of these new technologies, resulting in high false negatives rates. The new web requires a fundamental revolution in assessment technology. WebInspect 7 tackles today’s most complex web application technologies with breakthrough testing innovations, including simultaneous crawl and audit (SCA) and concurrent application scanning, resulting in the industry’s fastest and most accurate automated web application security testing tool.

Under Canada’s federal privacy law, federally regulated companies such as the major banks are obligated to ensure that personal information is protected by security safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information. Informatica Security, which provides information security assessment solutions across Canada, currently offers WebInspect and application security scanning as part of its best selling security assurance solutions: FlexSecure Verify. According to the company, the industries that benefit the most from application security solutions are banking, healthcare, government and most evidently, the retail sector.

WebInspect 7 built on the Phoenix architecture is available February 14, 2007.
