Examine the Challenges Faced by Companies Pushing Their Rich Internet ApplicationsJanuary 11, 2007; 05:27 AM This report initiates our coverage in the rapidly growing application acceleration space and the challenges faced by enterprises pushing their rich internet applications out to the edge of the network. We believe that underlying changes in software architecture (Service Oriented Architecture), implementation technologies (Web 2.0, AJAX & Mobile), widespread use of broadband (DSL, Cable, WiFi, WiMax, 3G) and new standard business models that incorporate Software as a Service will drive adoption of a networking stack that specializes in handling the dynamic delivery of content and application components. The problem is complex and simply adding bandwidth and processing power tends to make matters worse rather than improving them. Akamai (AKAM) is the best known public company associated with this area but we expect networking companies like F5 (FFIV) and Citrix (CTXS) to receive more attention from investors as this story unfolds. This initial report covers the basics for investors interested in this market, discusses the public and private players and sets the stage for our continued and expanded coverage of this sector.
