Atalasoft Releases New Imaging Components With DotImage Version 4.0

Advanced Document Cleanup, GlyphReader OCR Engine, and Advanced Photo Effects Add-Ons Complement DotImage Platform

August 1, 2006; 05:30 AM

Atalasoft, Inc., a leading provider of imaging components for Microsoft .NET Framework-based developers, today announced the release of its latest version of DotImage. Version 4.0 of DotImage introduces advanced document cleanup algorithms, advanced photo effects for automatic image enhancement, a cost effective and highly accurate OCR engine, and an improved Asynchronous JavaScript and XML (AJAX) image viewer and all new AJAX thumbnail control for viewing and processing images on the web.

The 4.0 release of DotImage premieres the DotImage Advanced Document Cleanup (ADC) and Advanced Photo Effects (APE) Modules. The Advanced Document Cleanup (ADC) Module is an add-on providing the ability to automatically remove specks and borders for improved image quality using unique proprietary algorithms developed by Atalasoft. The ADC add-on also provides automatic solid and broken line removal, blank page detection, as well as the ability to auto-negate inverted text and inverted documents. Atalasoft's new Advanced Photo Effects (APE) Module, aimed at serving the high-end photography and pre-press market, is an add-on that can be used to automatically enhance digital photos without laborious manual touch-ups.

Version 4.0 also includes the launch of the DotImage GlyphReader OCR Module, a highly accurate and cost-effective OCR engine. Atalasoft also announced the release of a module to support Abbyy's FineReader OCR engine. Abbyy, a respected leader in the OCR arena, is now partnering with Atalasoft to make its OCR technology accessible via DotImage.

In addition, Atalasoft will be providing a new PDF output module that can be added onto any Atalasoft-supported OCR engine. The PDF Translator module will generate searchable PDF documents that feature high-quality thumbnail images of the document pages and a variety of PDF flavors including text-only, text under full page image, and text and separate images. The release of these add-ons demonstrates Atalasoft's commitment to providing competitive .NET Framework support for a broader array of document and photo imaging needs.

"Microsoft is pleased to see the new capabilities Atalasoft is offering with the release of DotImage 4.0," said Brian Goldfarb, lead product manager of the .NET Developer Product Management Group at Microsoft Corp. "Atalasoft continues to provide expanded support of digital imaging solutions for the Microsoft .NET Framework."

"DotImage 4.0, our second major release within a year, demonstrates Atalasoft's ability to innovate quickly based on customer requests and industry demands," said William Bither, president of Atalasoft.

The DotImage platform itself showcases several upgrades and additional features with the 4.0 release. Significant items include an all new AJAX thumbnail control and an improved AJAX image viewer for viewing and processing images on the web with full panning support and on-demand tiled loading. These enhancements provide further support for developers seeking to create platform-independent, web-based imaging applications.
