Juniper Networks Delivers Enhanced AAA and 802.1x Network Access Security Products

July 17, 2006; 08:18 AM
Juniper Networks, Inc. announced the new Odyssey Access Client (OAC) 4.5 and Steel-Belted Radius (SBR) 5.4 software solutions. The new OAC 4.5 and SBR 5.4 capabilities enable Juniper to continue providing its customers with secured and assured networking solutions based on open standards, which can increase usability while decreasing maintenance, support and deployment costs.

The newest OAC 802.1X client family augments OAC’s already-robust network control, ease-of-use and security capabilities through new features, such as priority and preferred network connections, wireless suppression, prompt for user name, and additional EAP support. The latest revision to the SBR family of AAA/RADIUS servers advances its ease-of-administration and configuration, as well as supplements its superior authentication and administrative controls by adding new features, such as RADIUS clients via IP address range, greater administrator file permission control, improved logging, and enabling JavaScript within LDAP authentication.

"It’s great to see these additions to Juniper’s technology lineup, which address the needs of enterprises worldwide that rely on secure, high-performance wired or wireless networking," said Zeus Kerravala, vice president at Yankee Group. "With its comprehensive support of enterprise platforms, Odyssey Access Client continues to be the market-leading 802.1X supplicant built explicitly for enterprise use and deployment. The new version of Steel-Belted Radius extends its superior flexibility and dependability with time-saving tools and processes, as well as continued support for AAA functions and the latest standards."

Customers Benefit From A Single, Uniform Solution Using OAC and SBR

International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW); Otago Polytechnic; Spurs Sports & Entertainment; and University of Sydney are some of Juniper Networks’ OAC and/or SBR customers that have moved to a single uniform security and access control solution.

"Maintaining multiple network security and access control solutions was time-consuming and extremely costly for us, said Brandon San Miguel, network engineer at Spurs Sports & Entertainment, owners of the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs, the WNBA’s Silver Stars and the AHL’s Rampage. "We turned to Juniper because we needed a solution that would protect our network and key data. The Juniper SBR standards-based solution has allowed us to leverage our existing network infrastructure, working seamlessly within our current network environment."

Toby Makepeace, technical director for Network Utilities, a Juniper Networks reseller, added, "Juniper’s latest AAA/802.1X solutions form a comprehensive, network security and access control solution for our customers. The OAC enterprise-ready 802.1X supplicant operates on a wide variety of OS and system platforms, and when combined with Juniper’s standards-based SBR server ensures that only authorized users access the network, that user connections are configured correctly regardless of access methods, and that credentials and data stay secure."

OAC and SBR Continue To Evolve

Juniper continues to evolve the market-leading Odyssey Access Client and Steel-Belted Radius through new features and improvements. OAC 4.5 provides the ability to configure networks in priority order, identify network connections that supersede existing connections, and ensure users connect to the appropriate network in the appropriate manner. The new OAC 4.5 can also be configured to restrict user connectivity in certain situations, and addresses the security and authentication issues typically associated with shared devices.

The latest revision to the dependable Steel-Belted Radius family of AAA/RADIUS servers can reduce support and administrative costs while increasing SBR’s ROI. SBR 5.4 provides powerful troubleshooting and diagnostic tools, increases authentication control through enhanced JavaScript capabilities (in SBR’s Global Enterprise Edition), and expands its administration, deployment and configuration capabilities. SBR’s Centralized Configuration Management (CCM) feature provides the ability to configure multiple SBR servers from a single station. The new SBR 5.4 also enables groups of client devices to be controlled by a single configuration object.

Availability

The new Juniper Networks Odyssey Access Client (OAC) 4.5 and Steel-Belted Radius (SBR) 5.4 are available through Juniper Networks and its global network of reseller partners.
