Nexaweb Simplifies Enterprise Rich Internet Application Development with jRex 1.0

May 16, 2006; 05:53 AM

Nexaweb Technologies, Inc., provider of standards-based platform for building and deploying enterprise Rich Internet Applications (RIAs), announced the general availability of jRex 1.0, a server-agnostic, declarative XML UI engine that generates high-performance enterprise Web applications running in any browser. jRex 1.0 will be available to developers on May 19 as a fully-functional edition, free of charge for non-commercial use.

"The Rich Internet Application market is clearly turning the corner in terms of expanded platform-based offerings, new open source products and stronger developer community efforts," said Mark Driver, Research Vice President of Gartner. "For enterprises looking into different RIA platforms for migrating client/server applications to the Web, it's extremely important to ensure that various industry standards such as Java and Ajax are supported, which will future proof IT investment."

"Following its Ajax client release last month, Nexaweb continues to demonstrate its commitment to supporting open standards-based RIA development with the release of jRex," said Ron Schmelzer, senior analyst of ZapThink, LLC. "Many enterprises around the world have invested heavily in Java-based technology and development efforts. With Nexaweb's new Java client, enterprises can leverage their existing IT investments by tying in to backend systems and service oriented architecture (SOA) frameworks, migrating existing client-server applications, or by creating new RIA applications."

jRex is a server-agnostic XML UI engine that offers developers the ability to create enterprise RIAs utilizing any middle-tier technology, including Microsoft .NET, SOA, Web Services or native Java. jRex 1.0 features include:

-- Support for "codeless" or traditional programming for enhanced UI development;

-- A data platform for binding middle-tier data to UI elements by defining the UI and data sources, binding data to the UI, and updating the UI and the data using client-side Xupdate;

-- Support for traditional programming models such as JavaScript, client-side Java, or server-side processes, including ASP, ASP.NET, JSP, Servlet, Struts, SOA or Web Services;

-- A flexible UI architecture that delivers usability, reliability and performance typically found in desktop applications;

-- The ability to work seamlessly with any SOA infrastructure, including those from BEA, IBM, Oracle or SAP; and

-- A single code base that runs on all desktops and on all browsers, including Firefox as well as on any OS.

"We selected Nexaweb's product suite to build a Web-based platform using Java for our renewing 'Insurance Premium Calculation System,' which is used by more than 10,000 domestic insurance agents," commented Aflac, Japan. "Not only are our agents able to quickly leverage in-depth, integrated services deployed on Nexaweb's unified platform, but they are also able to maintain productivity in the field, while occasionally-connected to the Internet or even offline."

"As evidenced by our recently announced Ajax client and today's jRex release, we're committed to delivering reliable, intuitive enterprise Rich Internet Applications that make backend business-critical data available on any desktop, in any browser, at any time," said Coach Wei, CTO and Founder of Nexaweb. "Since jRex is based on Java, enterprises interested in RIA will not only be able to leverage a proven standards-based platform and extremely large developer community, they'll also be able to protect existing IT assets based on the platform."

Nexaweb will be demonstrating jRex 1.0 at the JavaOne Conference (May 16-19) in booth #1437.
