Scalix Announces Three New Versions of Email System on Linux; Suite Contains AJAX Web Mail Client

New Releases Tailored for Small Businesses, Linux Enthusiasts and VARs

April 4, 2006; 03:21 AM
SAN MATEO, Calif. & BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 3, 2006--Scalix, the leading provider of email and calendaring on Linux, today announced at LinuxWorld Boston that it is introducing three new products: Scalix Small Business Edition, the Scalix Appliance and Scalix Community Edition Raw. This brings to five the total number of Scalix products available.

"We continue to extend the Scalix product family based on user and partner feedback," said Glenn Winokur, Scalix chief executive officer. "The three new products today recognize the needs of small businesses, provide a plug-and-play email appliance for our channel and give Linux enthusiasts a version they can customize. The product line extension is reinforcement of Scalix's ongoing strategy to bring innovative and field-proven Linux messaging to all organizations."

Introduced and available today are the following three new Scalix products.

Scalix Small Business Edition offers many of the same features of Scalix's award-winning Enterprise Edition, but at a price point more appropriate for small organizations. It includes the industry's most robust third-party support for MS Outlook and Scalix Web Access (SWA), the company's highly-regarded and fully featured AJAX web email client. It also includes native support for Novell Evolution, unlimited POP/IMAP email access, GUI and command line administration, full group calendaring and scheduling and the optional Scalix Wireless Solution. Pricing starts at $995 for 50 users. It is a compelling upgrade for Scalix Community Edition users.

The Scalix Appliance is a secure email and collaboration solution with rich email client support and integrated anti-spam and anti-virus protection. It is enabled by the Scalix Appliance Kit for resellers that is a channel-friendly software suite that provides the best aspects of the appliance model -- plug-'n-play convenience, reliability and low-cost -- with openness and service opportunities. The kit enables customers to turn on a Scalix Appliance and answer a few questions for world-class messaging, eliminating the need for an experienced system admin. Scalix Appliances are available from authorized Scalix resellers and represent a great way for non-Linux oriented organizations to experience robust, reliable and secure Linux-based email.

Community Edition Raw is free software that enables Linux system administrators, developers and enthusiasts to customize a powerful and open email server that supports rich email clients. Functionally equivalent to Community Edition, CE Raw components are individually available, making customization easier. The software includes manual installation instructions via a Wiki that community members can use to share technical tips and how-to information.

In addition to the new products, Scalix also offers Enterprise Edition for advanced industrial-strength email and calendaring, and Community Edition for organizations wanting the best free unlimited-use email and calendaring. Scalix 10, the most recent release of Scalix, received this week the coveted "Excellent" rating from InfoWorld, who reviewed the messaging system after it was introduced last month. According to the review, "Scalix proved it knows its way around MAPI better than any non-Microsoft vendor ... Combine that with Scalix Web Access's rich functionality and the product's Linux and OpenMail underpinning, and Scalix delivers an industrial-strength solution."
