FireScope, a leading developer of IT operations software, today debuted its breakthrough IT operations management dashboard solution at RSA Conference 2007 in San Francisco. Surpassing both the graphical and performance capabilities of other IT operations solutions as well as traditional monitoring products, FireScope offers a real-time, intuitive and customizable look at the entire availability, performance and security of an enterprise’s assets, enabling IT managers to instantly assess—and even diagnose—any aspect of the system’s health.

FireScope, sold and installed as a network appliance or group of distributed appliances, creates a Web-based portal that reports on the operational status of any server, router, application, or other networked asset. Unique to FireScope is its flexible, AJAX-driven, real-time GUI comprised of portlets that can be easily tailored or even hot-deployed to fit enterprise needs. Any JSR-168 compliant portlet can be applied to the FireScope system; the solution also offers a library of portal templates suitable for any operational or analytical need.

“With the importance of IT availability and performance growing daily—not to mention the diversity and intensity of security threats—it’s critical that IT managers have a better way to track and investigate their assets, regardless of location. The FireScope dashboard delivers on that need,” said Mark Lynd, president of FireScope. “This is redefining technology that both simplifies and empowers the IT manager’s task. And because FireScope is based on open source, it combines both FireScope’s proprietary technologies and the best security applications available.”

FireScope takes full advantage of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) to support its interactive graphs and tabular data. Information is updated in real time using AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML), pushing data aggregated from all network assets into the dashboard. The portal also comes pre-installed with the industry’s best open source security applications pre-installed and ready to use, giving users an instant look at their entire environment’s health the same day FireScope is plugged in.

Beyond Security Point Solutions

Despite the wealth of security infrastructure—firewalls, anti-virus software and the like— installed in enterprise networks today, most point-based solutions fail to adapt to new threats fast enough or are limited in their scope, providing protection against only certain forms of attack.

FireScope bridges the gap between multiple security and management point solutions by aggregating all network and security-related data produced by these point solutions as well as servers, applications, databases and various network devices. This information is correlated and filtered into actionable business intelligence, enabling enterprises to quickly identify, from one central location, availability and performance issues or security breaches that may be bypassing current point solutions.

Unmatched Flexibility

Because FireScope is portlet-based, it supports virtually any and all kinds of JSR-168 compliant monitoring, analytical, collaborative and reporting tools. Integrated into the solution is a suite of message boards, wikis, shared bookmarks, blogs, RSS feeds and more, to give IT operators powerful connections to internal/external shared knowledge. Sophisticated analysis of system and application logs provides instant identification of only those events IT managers need to be aware of.

As for reports and alerts, FireScope identifies specific, actionable issues and performance thresholds, giving users complete control over when and how it notifies IT staff, logs events for compliance reporting, or executes code on the device in question.

IT Friendly

FireScope was designed by senior IT executives who, as front-line IT staffers, were frustrated with the quality of IT operations management products available. “The FireScope team understands what works and what doesn’t,” said Lynd. “We believe FireScope is the fastest, most comprehensive, most powerful, yet intuitive and easy-to-use product on the market.”

With solutions starting at $10,000, FireScope is a cost-effective way for any IT operation to easily maintain a “high-9’s” performance, availability and security record. FireScope will be demonstrating its product during RSA Conference 2007 from its exhibit at Booth 247 in Moscone Center. For more information, visit the display or www.firescope.com.
