Pentaho Corp., creator of the world’s most popular open source business intelligence (BI) suite, today announced General Availability of Pentaho Data Integration 2.4. Pentaho Data Integration 2.4 enhances the world’s most popular open source Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) project with improved performance and scalability through Massively Parallel Processing (MPP), as well as new ease-of-use features designed to enhance ETL developer productivity.

Pentaho Data Integration 2.4 provides support for Massively Parallel Processing, allowing organizations to distribute large data integration jobs across multiple servers to maximize throughput and minimize batch windows when updating large data warehouses. This new capability was designed to address the needs of organizations that have to integrate and manage large volumes of data.

Well-known for its intuitive graphical interface, Pentaho Data Integration 2.4 also extends the product’s ease of use, designed to improve developer productivity, and accelerate the deployment of Pentaho’s best-in-class open source ETL capabilities. A new multi-tabbed interface allows ETL developers to modify multiple transformations and jobs simultaneously. Transformation variable support has also been extended to more transformations, with new visual indicators to make it easy for developers to manage and incorporate dynamic variables into enterprise ETL jobs. The new release also provides enhanced javascript support, simplifying the creation of javascript-based rules, and improving javascript execution performance. Finally, ETL job execution has been directly integrated with the transformation design environment, streamlining ETL deployment and simplifying ETL development.

Originally released as an open source ETL project in 2005, Pentaho’s data integration project has grown by providing an easy-to-use, scalable, and open alternative to proprietary ETL environments for small organizations up to large enterprises. Selected for use by leading organizations like Terra Industries and MySQL AB, Pentaho Data Integration provides a graphical design environment and a metadata-driven architecture that avoid the scalability and maintenance challenges associated with traditional code-generating ETL tools. The new release of Pentaho Data Integration includes code-level contributions from developers in North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia as well as the testing and feedback of hundreds of community testers around the globe.

“We worked closely with our customers and community to deliver Pentaho Data Integration 2.4,” said Matt Casters, Chief Data Integration Architect at Pentaho and Founder of the Kettle project. “With the new release, we can allow organizations to take advantage of extreme ETL scalability with all the benefits of a professional open source data integration platform.” A short video interview with Matt Casters is available now to registered users at www.pentaho.com/products/demos/ .
