Fotango UK, a leading creator of software solutions for professional developers, has announced the launch of a web application design competition aimed at developers. The Zimki Application Design Competition has been launched to encourage web developers and application designers to build original web 2.0 applications using the Zimki JavaScript application development platform.

Zimki is a pay as you go, end to end JavaScript web application development platform that takes away the repetitive tasks encountered when creating web applications. Setting up a server, security and backups are done automatically, enabling developers to get on with doing what they enjoy: developing applications.

Developers will be able to tap into Zimki's full API to create standalone applications or 'Mash-ups' integrating multiple web services. The prize pool for the competition includes an all expenses paid trip to the emerging technology conference (Etech '07) in San Diego, California; plus a high spec Apple MacBook Pro.

Additional prizes include a second prize of a top of the range MacBook Pro and five runners up prizes of Apple Mac Minis. According to Koby Amedume, Chief Marketing Officer for Fotango, "The application design competition is a fantastic opportunity for developers out there to put into practice those ideas for cool apps floating around their head". He added "The winning developers and their applications will be promoted heavily by Fotango, and their name, skills and abilities will be showcased in front of some of the most influential people in the industry!"

The competition will run until 31st January 2007, and Fotango have put together a heavyweight panel of independent judges from both the UK and the United States to select the winning entries. These include Brady Forrest of O'Reilly Radar, Ryan Carson of Carson Systems, Simon Willison of Yahoo!, Adny Budd - author of CSS Mastery and John Musser of ProgrammableWeb.com.
