Adobe and Oracle Collaborate on Enterprise Rich Client Development

Oracle and Adobe today announced they are working together to enable developers to easily create Web 2.0 applications for the enterprise. For the first time, enterprise applications will be able to include animations, charts and graphs in Adobe Flash combined with other AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML) content surfaced in a rich Java- based portal such as Oracle Portal, which is part of the Oracle Fusion Middleware product family.

This effort opens the door for a new wave of applications with highly visual displays that can be quickly integrated with enterprise processes and data. These solutions, called "Enterprise Mashups," will mix technologies and popular interactive user interface features to incorporate real-time animated graphs and visualizations based in Adobe Flash, HTML, or other AJAX-based components.

"Enterprise developers want to create applications with the impact and effectiveness of Web 2.0 while preserving their commitment to standards-based infrastructure backed by strategic vendors," said Jeff Whatcott, senior director of product marketing, Enterprise and Developer Business Unit, Adobe. "By integrating Adobe Flex, the Adobe framework for building enterprise Flash applications, with the latest portal and Web services standards, Oracle and Adobe are bringing dramatically more engaging and usable business applications to end users, while meeting the needs of developers and IT organizations."

"Oracle's Application Development Framework (ADF) allows developers to create powerful user interfaces," said Luke Kowalski, Corporate UI Architect at Oracle. "The ability for ADF components to blend on the same page with Flash, HTML, and other rich client elements can result in a superior user experience for both our infrastructure software and applications customers. Working with Adobe not only allows us to add interoperability with Flash to Oracle Fusion Middleware, but it also sets the stage for a wide range of next- generation user experiences such as rich desktop integration."

With the integration between Oracle Fusion Middleware and Adobe, Oracle Applications users have new opportunities to extend their applications and include rich, graphical interfaces for users to access applications such as Oracle E-Business Suite, PeopleSoft and Siebel.

This integration will work with the current generation of Oracle Portal and with future user interaction environments being developed by Oracle. Oracle and Adobe intend to drive innovation in rich client portal integration within the JSR168, JSR286 and WSRP2.0 Portlet standards working groups.
