TechSmith Corp., provider of screen capture and recording solutions, announced the availability of Screencast.com, a Web-based service in its beta stage for business and academic professionals who want to share information, ideas, and knowledge in an engaging online multimedia experience. At Screencast.com, users can watch, share, and upload video, audio, and multimedia content that retains its original quality, size, dimensions, and professionalism.

“Today’s video-sharing services are primarily entertainment-focused and targeted at a mass consumer audience, while Screencaset.com is designed for business and education professionals,” said Rich Boys, Associate Product Manager, Camtasia Studio and Screencast.com. “Screencast.com addresses a very real market need by providing an affordable, efficient service that allows professionals, regardless of their technical expertise, to deliver multimedia content online about themselves, their companies and products, their expertise, and even their hobbies.”

Screencast.com is also integrated with the newly released Camtasia Studio 4, providing users a direct connection for uploading their screencasts with a single click.

Sample screencasts can be viewed at www.screencast.com.

Anyone can upload and share a wide variety of supporting images and documents along with their videos and screencasts, such as Microsoft Word and Excel documents, PowerPoint presentations, and Adobe PDF files that viewers can download.

Content uploaded to Screencast.com can be shared as individual pieces of media or sorted into collections making it easy for users to streamline the viewing experience. Users can make their screencasts and multimedia content available by sharing a URL via email or IM, or embedding HTML code that is automatically generated by Screencast.com to cut and paste into Web pages and Blogs. Viewers can subscribe to specific Screencast.com video and audio content, including Apple iPod-compatible video and audio, via RSS and iTunes feeds.

All content can be made private or public and, with Screencast.com’s integrated email notification, users can invite individuals or groups to view a single piece of media or an entire collection. Users also have access to analytics regarding their content, including which invitees have accepted an invitation to view a private collection and how many times a specific piece of media has been viewed.

Screencast.com users retain complete ownership of their content, can add or remove content and because Screencast.com doesn’t resize or reformat the user’s content, individuals who watch videos posted on Screencast.com see exactly what was uploaded.

Screencast.com (beta) is available at www.screencast.com. Screencast.com is compatible with Internet Explorer 6 or Firefox 1.5 or higher with JavaScript enabled. A broadband Internet connection and Flash Player 9 is recommended for uploading. A free one-month account is available with 100MB of storage with 1GB of transfer bandwidth. Thereafter, Screencast.com subscriptions can be purchased on a monthly or annual basis based upon storage and bandwidth transfer needs.
