Backbase released version 1.2 of its Backbase AJAX Java Edition. Version 1.2 contains extended functionality of the Eclipse WTP plug-in, new UI components, improved client-side validation and extended application server support.

The Eclipse WTP plug-in has been upgraded to Eclipse version 3.2 and WTP version 1.5. Developers can now easily create projects, manage licenses and access the documentation directly from Eclipse WTP. A new UI component wizard allows simple creation of custom components. The new wizard is based on Eclipse WTP.

The most notable new UI component is the context menu. In addition, client-side validation has been improved and now includes a configurable "required" property as well as use of regular expressions for advanced client-side validation.

Finally, application server support has been extended. BEA WebLogic 9.2, Oracle 10g, WebSphere 5.1.1 and JBoss 4.0.4 have been added. The Backbase AJAX Java Edition now supports the most recent versions of all major application servers, while still supporting several older versions (see the Getting Started Guide for details).

The improvements are accompanied by substantially enhanced documentation – now also available in Javadoc format. The API documentation has been completed, the tutorials improved, and the installation guide extended with the new application servers.

Backbase recommended all existing users to upgrade to the new version. The existing license file will continue to work. New users can download a trial version.
