After a period of public testing at www.yahoo.com/preview, Yahoo has moved the new design to its homepage.  The new layout differs significantly from the traditional Yahoo look, and features Asynchronous JavaScript and XML (AJAX) functionality.

Yahoo's old look.

The new features, which allow for a more dynamic interface and increased personalization, depend on Yahoo's homegrown AJAX technology.  Sources on the Yahoo Developer network have revealed that the new site has been built using the Yahoo UI JavaScript library.

Yahoo is currently the second most popular search engine, and implementing AJAX into the new design of the Yahoo portal is expected to add to the already high profile of the technology.  Yahoo started back in 1994 as a student hobby of its creators David Filo and Jerry Yang.
