A new version of the Camino browser for the Mac was released today. The new version contains important stability and security fixes, and the Camino Project urges all users to upgrade.

Camino features ad blocking, bundled Java Embedding Plugin, Mozilla Gecko rendering engine v1.8, inline history search, the ever-popular tabs, and more. The new version updates many of the included components.

According to the latest NetApplication browser share survey, Camino is not one of the top six web browsers; instead, it ranks somewhere in the 0.18% “others” category. Nevertheless, Camino raises nothing but praise on popular technology sites.

The official website touts Camino as a browser that “is as functional and elegant as the computers it runs on”, and as software that will allow users to “see the entire internet the way it was intended.”

Camino is freely distributed as a universal binary and runs natively on both PowerPC- and Intel-based Macs. It requires Mac OS X 10.2 or later, 128 MB RAM, and 50 MB free disk space. The project website is at http://www.caminobrowser.org .
