Microsoft released a beta version of its Internet Explorer browser on Monday.  Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) Beta 2 Preview will only run on Windows XP Service Pack 2  systems, but will ultimately be available for Windows Vista, Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, and Windows Server 2003.  It is avaiable for download at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/ie7/ie7betaredirect.mspx.

The pre-release software should not be used on production systems, according to Microsoft.  Its purpose is testing and getting feedback from developers and the general public.

IE7 will feature a streamlined interface, new features like Favourites Center, tabbed browsing, support for transparent PNG images, RSS, and more.  Official release is expected later this year.

As JS Search reported, an alpha version of the Firefox browser was also released recently.
