Genuitec and Hitachi Launch New Portal to Expand Eclipse Development in the Japanese Market

February 27, 2007; 03:16 AM
Hitachi, Ltd. and Genuitec, LLC, today announced the upcoming launch of a joint portal for Eclipse-based developers in the Japanese market. Users of this portal will have access to and support for the Japanese version of MyEclipse Enterprise Workbench, the popular integrated development environment (IDE). This version will be fully operated and supported in the Japanese language. Similar to the English version, Japanese MyEclipse will be available for a free trial.

The Genuitec/Hitachi partnership will significantly accelerate Java application adoption in the Japanese market. An estimated 70% of Java developers in Japan currently utilize the Eclipse platform, creating a new market opportunity for Japanese-language, Eclipse-based creative tools and plug-ins.

"Eclipse is quickly penetrating the Japanese market as the open source IDE of choice; however, many Japanese Java developers have not embraced creative tools such as MyEclipse because of the language barriers and lack of support," said Shigetoshi Hayashi, General Manager of Network Software and Software Division at Hitachi. "Availability of the Japanese version of MyEclipse and its Japanese language on-line support service will encourage a large number of Japanese Java developers to adopt MyEclipse, and as a result create a new opportunity for Eclipse plug-in providers to enter this virtually untapped Japanese market."

Moving forward after their September 2006 announcement of MyEclipse's bundling with Hitachi's acclaimed Cosminexus server, and now launching the Japanese MyEclipse subscription portal, Hitachi and Genuitec will continue to strengthen their partnership in order to increase Java application development productivity as the Japanese market evolves, including sequential distribution of additional functions and services for Japanese Java developers based on MyEclipse.

"The availability of MyEclipse in the Japanese language opens a door to the Japanese market for Eclipse-based tools," said Maher Masri, CEO of Genuitec. "Our strategic partnership with Hitachi will allow us to nimbly address emerging needs of Japanese developers, and we look forward to, along with Hitachi, providing these developers quality tools in an affordable, timely and accessible manner."

The Japanese MyEclipse portal is slated for launch by the end of April.

Main features of the new Japanese MyEclipse
Japanese MyEclipse retains all the functionalities of the English-language version, and supports many frameworks such as Struts, JSF, Spring and others for Java application development and Hibernate for DB connection/access. Frameworks support rapid development through a series of wizards and interfaces, so an application developer can operate with minimum programming.

In addition, MyEclipse's AJAX Tools allow developers to more easily create rich and dynamic Web applications. The first AJAX/Web 2.0 tool for the Eclipse environment, MyEclipse provides an advanced JavaScript Debugger with the ability to set and step through JavaScript breakpoints and code assist for common JavaScript elements, functions and variables. The product also includes advanced drag-and-drop Rapid Application Development features with near-zero hand coding.

Other features include:
o   High Functionality GUI designer with intuitive and flexible screen layout
o    Full compatibility with the Eclipse 3.2.2 and Callisto product offerings, allowing developers to make use of these popular new projects without interoperability or language concerns
o    UML support (modeling and code generation)
Genuitec is currently readying support for the Eclipse 3.3 platform, and will continue their commitment to be among the first commercial solutions built on new Eclipse releases.
