Software development company Epiware released an Ajax-enabled Web-based Virtual Private Network (VPN) solution, named SSLBridge.

SSLBridge allows users to access files and folders located on a local company network from locations outside of the physical office and network. Users can login from home to access their computer and other servers on the company network without any client software installed on their home machine. A user can log into SSLBridge from the community intranet, or from any computer that has a web browser and internet connection using their user name and password for the network. All shared files and folders are accessible for download and if changes are made, the new file can be uploaded to the server for access at the work site.

SSLBridge uses Asynchronous JavaScript And XML (AJAX) to increase the application’s interactivity, speed, and usability. This helps make SSLBridge nearly as responsive as software that resides on a user’s computer. The technique helps speed up computer operations by cutting down on the need to request fresh Web pages from the server. SSLBridge can request smaller chunks of data to update the page that is already on the browser using DHTML.

Features
    • Easy Access: Log-in to SSLBridge from a community intranet or with a web browser using the user name and password that you use to login to your work computer.
    • Familiar Interface: The interface is similar to other file browsing tools, which nearly eliminates the need to learn new software.
    • Upload New Files: To upload a new file to a folder on SSLBridge, right click on the folder and select “Upload.” A pop up dialog will appear prompting you to select a file for upload. Select the file and click on the button “Upload File”. The file will appear in the selected folder on SSLBridge.
    • Download Files: To download a file from SSLBridge, right click on the file and select “Download.” The browser will subsequently prompt you to choose whether to open or download the file.
    • Move Files: To move a file from one folder to another, click and hold on the file the drag to desired folder location. Multiple files can also be selected for a move from one folder to another. Once selection is made the files can then be dragged to the desired location.
    • Simple Set-Up: Simple instructions for on-site administrators to implement on a Linux server and customize based on program needs.
    • Secure File Transmission: The SSLBridge application, in conjunction with SSL 128 bit encryption, secures data transmission from the server to the web browser and vice versa.
    • Maintain Existing Permissions: Communicates with your Microsoft Active Directory using Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) which maintains established permissions and access for users eliminating the need to maintain a separate user and policy base.
