Best of the Year

2006 was the year when JavaScript got recognition as a serious programming language, and a trendy one at that. The rise of AJAX turned JavaScript from a toy for creating flashy menus into a valuable tool, the mastery over which guaranteed entry into the world of Web 2.0. Pathos aside, last year saw a great resurgence in interest towards JavaScript coding.

As part of celebrating that newly found interest in JavaScript, we have compiled two honorary listings. Each listing reflects one side of web development, which changed in the past year, and which will undoubtedly have impact on the internet in 2007. The first listing recognizes the websites that put JavaScript to good use, drawing "oohs" and "aahs" from millions of visitors. The second listing reflects how JavaScript coding changed last year and how web developers now possess tools that were previously unavailable.
